Railway Rolling Stock
The interaction between the rail wheel and the rail tracks is complex and subject to wear and tear. Safety and Comfort are the driving forces to understanding these parameters for product improvement or monitoring the performance of equipment in use. Tilt monitoring and detection are essential measurements conducted by Sensors that work under extreme conditions. Excessive shock impacts, temperature fluctuations, dust, and debris impact are factors to be considered in the choice of sensor type.
Failure is not an option and Precise-Accurate-Reliable Sensors from Sherborne are used for such measurements.
Project Challenges
Measuring inclination on the bogie of a rail carriage requires a sensor with the highest precision and the ability to withstand a harsh environment in regards to temperature, shock, sealing, and mounting.
The Solution
The force-balanced LSOC from Sherborne is specially designed for operation in harsh environments. The sensor is sealed and can easily be mounted with the attached base plate. Most importantly, the sensor can absorb shock impacts in excess of 1000g which would destroy other sensor elements. The reliability and long-term stability of the LSOC make it the ideal sensor for this application.
Sherborne Sensors’ high precision inclinometers measure horizontal and vertical angular inclination with virtually infinite resolution; providing highly accurate tilt and inclination measurements for demanding industrial applications.
