The Precise Calibration of Robots

The Need

For the calibration of robots, the precision of an industrial robot is directly dependent on the precise alignment of every single axis.

The Challenge

The single biggest challenge is keeping the precise amount of force necessary to keep a solid connection The offset of each axis has to be measured not only in production, after mounting the robot, but also after the installation at the customer site. These offsets are then to be known and compensated by the process control system.

The Solution

T233 Series of dual axis gravity referenced servo inclinometers

For all axis, the robot is put in zero-position, with a special 2-D Sherborne Sensors’ inclination sensor the offsets are then determined in X- and Y-direction and are compared to the reference on the foot of the robot. Afterwards, these values are stored in the process control.

For this application we would use the T233/5 Series, a range of dual axis gravity referenced servo inclinometers that is used in industrial applications where high precision angular measurements are required.
