The Need
During aircraft manufacture and on planned maintenance intervals, the flight control surfaces, such as the rudder, elevator, flaps, and aileron, require accurate calibration relative to the pilots’ lever position.
The Challenge
Precise inclination measurements of the aircraft’s wings ensure proper alignment of primary and secondary flight control surfaces. These measurements are critical for system testing and verifying alignment with the pilot’s controls. Given the height of an assembled aircraft, measuring wired, wing mounted inclinometer systems presents challenges and requires timely set up and extensive cabling.

The Solution
Sherborne Sensors’ WTS wireless inclination sensor delivers highly accurate measurements while saving time and costs by eliminating the need for extensive cabling. Multiple WTS units can be used simultaneously on a single aircraft, further improving efficiency. In addition to its standard angle range, the WTS can be factory-calibrated for specific set angles, with each unit supplied with an individual calibration certificate. The 2.4GHz radio transmission allows data to be sent either to a handheld reader, capable of reading multiple units, or to a base station. The base station can connect directly to a PC via USB, with additional RS232 and RS485 options available.
